Where is this? It is known that Side Underwater Museum has been visited by more than 50 thousand people since 31 October 2015, the date of its establishment as Turkey's first underwater museum.
As the name suggests, only those who can dive can enter the museum, where approximately 117 sculptures are exhibited under the sea.
Therefore, unfortunately, such an opportunity is not available for those who do not know how to swim. Located at a depth of 11, 18 and 24 meters, approximately 1.5 miles off Side, Side Underwater Museum hosts the works of sculptors specially brought from Istanbul and Gaziantep.
Why should I go? Each of the statues symbolizes important elements in Turkey's history and culture. For example; Sculptures such as soldiers in the trenches, cannons, standing soldiers and cannonballs represent the Çanakkale and Independence Wars; Nearly 30 statues consisting of Mevlana and whirling dervishes at a depth of 12 meters symbolize Mevlana and the Mevlevi tradition.
In addition, magnificent works such as the caravan of camels, the Turkish flag and the map of Turkey, the statue of the mythological figure sea god Poseidon are exhibited in the museum. Side Underwater Museum is visited by more than 10 thousand diving enthusiasts every year.
