Holiday in Lefkada (2023) from Turgut Can's blog

I returned to Lefkada after another 2 years. Fourth time for me, second time for Antonia. I discovered some restaurants, I made some friends with the locals. 2014, 2019, 2021, 2023.

It seems we arrived faster than last time, about 12 hours or so, but we were lucky not to stay at the border at all. With Schengen it would have been even better. I'm not talking about the highway to Giurgiu and, why not, to Sofia.

The island is more expensive and more "luxurious" than on previous visits. I mean, several 4-5 star resorts have been built, there are all kinds of villas that can be rented for a lot of money.

I don't know exactly if the price increases are due to inflation or forced taxation. It seems that last year there were some important tax raids in Greece, which suspended the activity of many. What is certain is that I saw, for the first time, vouchers at every step. Until now the handwritten note was something common, now you can pay with the card in many places and a receipt is given even in cash.

In one place we met a waiter who gave us two prices, 48 ​​euros with the card, 45 euros in cash. 

We returned to the Buena Vista Cultural Center for a few evenings of Cuban music, talked more with Despina, the smiling Greek woman who owns the bar with her husband.

The food is just as good, and if you know the right beaches, you can rest in peace, in a very cool atmosphere. 

I will come back with a separate post for Egremni beach, I was there in 2014 for the first time, I came back only this year and it was a… memorable experience.
